Chiropractic Manipulation

Chiropractic manipulation also known as chiropractic adjusting or spinal manipulation, is an effective therapeutic treatment for back pain. The objective of chiropractic treatment is to reduce pain in order to increase range of motion, reduced nerve irritability and improve joint function.

There are a variety of methods through which adjustment can be achieved including activator instruments and myofascial release (low force methods); as well as traditional chiropractic adjustment using high velocity low amplitude techniques. Our practitioners are well versed in all these methods. It is always best to communicate with your practitioner regarding your preferences.

Practiced in China and other Asian countries for thousands of years. Acupuncture is among the oldest healing practices in the world. As part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), acupuncture aims to restore and maintain health through the stimulation of specific points on the body. According to TCM, health is achieved by maintaining the body in a “balanced state”; disease is due to an internal imbalance of yin and yang. This imbalance leads to blockage in the flow of Qi (vital energy) along pathways known as meridians. Qi can be unblocked, according to TCM, by using acupuncture at certain points on the body that connect with these meridians. Acupuncture needles are metallic, solid, and hair-thin. People experience acupuncture differently, but most feel no or minimal pain as the needles are inserted. Some people feel energized by treatment, while others feel relaxed.

Dry Needle

Trigger Point Dry Needling (TDN)

Trigger point dry needling also involves using thin needles to penetrate the skin, however it is a different technique than acupuncture. While acupuncture works on energy meridians, trigger point dry needling works at muscle origin and insertion points, known as trigger points. It is an extremely effective technique that uses a very fine needles to “deactivate” or “shut down” painful or knotted areas in your muscles. The method helps to relax tight muscles and irritated nerves, allowing improved blood flow and better range of motion.

Cold Laser Therapy

Exclusive to Edwards Chiropractic and Acupuncture.

Edwards Chiropractic and Acupuncture has one of the most powerful cold lasers available. This treatment uses entirely non-thermal, non-heating therapeutic (cold) laser light to provide relief from pain, eliminate inflammation (swelling) or to repair damaged tissues.  Laser therapies can be used for a variety of conditions and can be quite remarkable in their ability to address difficult to treat issues such as tendonitis, carpel tunnel and more. Our powerful laser is one of a kind in terms of its ability to penetrate effectively into deeper areas such as the low back and hip.

Muscle Stimulation

Interferential electrical muscle stimulation is often prescribed for providing relief from chronic and/or acute post-traumatic pain, as well as for the relaxation of muscle spasm, the prevention or reversal of disuse atrophy, increasing local blood circulation, muscle re-education, and maintaining or increasing range of motion.. This stimulation prompts the body to secrete endorphins and other natural pain killers to help relieve pain. Ligament sprains, muscle strains and spasms often respond well to this treatment.  If someone is having chronic discomfort a home TEN’s unit can provide great relief, decreasing the need to use medication for pain.   Ask us about a home TENS unit.

Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound therapy uses sound waves to penetrate soft tissues for treatment of pain, and to promote tissue healing. It has been shown to cause increased tissue relaxation, local blood flow, and scar tissue breakdown. The effect of the increase in local blood flow can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation.

Graston® Technique

Graston Technique® is a form of instrumented soft tissue mobilization. It aids the practitioner to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. This innovative, patented technique is used to treat soft tissue conditions, whether they are chronic or acute and post surgical.

Dr. Eckdahl is advanced certified in this technique and has been incorporating into practice since 2007.

Myofascial release

Myofacial release is a soft tissue system/movement-based technique used to treat problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. The provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and mobility of the soft tissue. Using hand pressure, the practitioner works to remove or break up the fibrous adhesions, with the stretching motions generally in the direction of venous and lymphatic flow. Often the patient is instructed to actively move the affected tissue in prescribed ways while the practitioner applies pressure, thus allowing for greater release of the involved muscles.

Kinesio taping

Kinesio Taping gives support and stability to your joints and muscles without affecting circulation and range of motion.  Traditional sports’ taping, is wrapped around a joint strictly for stabilization and support during a sporting event obstructing the flow of bodily fluids. Kinesio tape is used in a manner which  gives support and stability to your joints and muscles without affecting circulation and range of motion. It relaxes overused muscles and in rehabilitation facilitates use of underused muscles.
